MILLVILLE - Congressman Frank LoBiondo announced Wednesday that the Millville Municipal airport will receive $919,223 in federal funding from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The funding will be used to remove obstructions on and off the airport runway as part of phase IV to ensure safe airfield operations.
"This is good news for Millville and its long-term development plans centered around the airport," said LoBiondo, who also serves as a member of the House Aviation Subcommittee.
"As the community knows, the Millville airport continues to attract attention from the top names in aviation, including Boeing, thus providing an economic boost to the region and creating new jobs," LoBiondo said.
The congressman added: "This federal funding will go a long way improving our local transportation infrastructure and continue the momentum created earlier this year."
In 2010, the Millville airport became home to Boeing Company's post-production modification work on the Chinook helicopter as part of their contract with the U.S. Army.
LoBiondo worked closely with Boeing, the secretary of the Army, and the Delaware River and Bay Authority who owns the airport, to secure the contract work locally for the next four years, with options to extend.
